22nd-24th of August 2014 - In Valverde, in Catania Province, this weekend will take place the 29th Edition of the Festival of Anchovies.
It will be possible to taste a wide selection of recipes with anchiovies and other local food, go around the stands and attend the fascinating parade of Sicilian carts.
The event, which goes back to an ancient tradition of the 19 hundred century, recalls and celebrates the old job of fishermen from Acitrezza, who would start placing the anchovies in salt in May and would start selling them three months later, during the Celebration of Virgin Mary in Valverde, which happens on the last Sunday of August.
