Cuddura cu l’ova

Introduction

Ingredients

Preparation

Sicilian biscuits are distinguished by the particular hard-boiled egg 'embedded' in the crust. Their name derives from the 'cuddura', a type of bread inside which, in ancient times, cooked eggs were inserted to make it more substantial. The ingredients are simple and poor in nature: flour, sugar, lard, milk, eggs and lemon peel. Modelled like sculptures, they can have many shapes, from the classic Easter dove, to a woven basket, a heart or in the shape of animals. Prepared mainly by grandmothers, they are distributed to children and relatives as Easter gifts
