Moscato di Pantelleria, also called Moscato di Alessandria and commonly known as Zibibbo, was first introduced in Sicily probably in '800 a.c. by the Arabs coming from Capo Zibib, an African village in front of Pantelleria. Different sources however tell that this grape originates in France and its cultivation was spread out in Sicily to satisfy Marsilia market's needs. Looking beyond its uncertain origin, Moscato di Pantelleria is for sure a noble wine, being the result of zibibbo grapes cultivation on sunny terraces on the island of Pantelleria. The prolonged drying of the grapes on lava stone slabs gives this wine a unique taste and aroma with a scent of ripe fruits, almonds and dry figs.
